Exploring the Latest Hawaii Island Event Rules - Updated August 27, 2021.

Today the Hawaii County mayor announced further social gatherings limits due to the increased number of Covid cases on Hawaii Island.

Today Mayor Roth held a press conference announcing further social gathering limit due to the rise in Covid cases and the strain on the hospitals on Hawaii Island. Social gatherings are now currently limited to 10 indoors and 10 outdoors. Bars and restaurants that also cater to the wedding and events industry are once again limited to 50% of the restaurant's or bar's occupancy. For events at a restaurant it is recommended that there be no more than 10 people per grouping, each group should be 6 ft. apart from each other with no mingling, and patrons must sit with their party. Masks should be worn at all times except for when actively eating and drinking. Masks should be worn for outdoor events in a crowded setting which the county defines as an areas of more than 10 people and where 6 feet of social distancing cannot be maintained.

Events outdoor under a tent is considered indoors if the tent has all sides covered, 3 sides covered, or 2 sides covered. An event under a tent can be considered outdoor if it only has 1 side covered or no side coverings at all.

The county will also review proposals for professionally sponsored events of more than 10 people. Professionally sponsored events are conducted by an establishment or from a wedding or party planning business that takes responsibility for all preventative measures in their submitted/approved safety plan to the county.

There is a possibility that an event could have more attendees than the current social gathering limit. This would require submitting for an exemption at least 30 days before the event date to the county for approval.

One important thing to take notice of that today the county will be rescinding all gatherings that were issued for 25 - 75 people.
